Janae Music Offers Insight Into Her Past, Present, and Future

A native of the DMV area, Janae Music is an upcoming artist with a captivating voice and genuine lyrics. Having initially honed her vocal abilities in school and church choirs, she recently showcased her formidable talent at collegiate singing competitions to great acclaim. Her music fuses love, pain, and passion seamlessly, reflecting real-life experiences that draw audiences everywhere into each performance.

QUESTION: What initially inspired you to pursue a career in music?

JM: I started singing in a children’s choir in school and church when I was young. After that experience, I knew what I wanted to do in my life was to start competing; I competed in a collegiate competition that helped me realize I was meant to do this.

QUESTION: Have you performed anywhere people might know?

JM: My love of the DMV area is well-known, as I have performed at Washington, DC’s legendary Howard Theatre and the Filmore, Silver Spring, Maryland. Outside of that lit, people have seen me at the Nerve DJ’s stage at SXSW in Austin, Texas, Core DJ’s stage in New York City, and LA. Outside of that, I have had several appearances singing the National Anthem at professional boxing events in addition to basketball games, BET Live stage, and too many more to list.

QUESTION: Are there any individuals who have influenced your approach to music?

JM: Beyoncé, Anita Baker, Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, and Whitney Houston would be a handful I could point to, as I do not think I would be singing in quite the same way without the impact that they have made on the music industry as a whole.

QUESTION: Out of all the musicians working today, who would you like to work with?

JM: I would like to work with J. Cole, Pharrell, Meghan Thee Stallion, Eric Bellinger, and many more. Many incredible musicians are working today; working with them is a dream.
